Ports are structurally complex environments, characterised by extensive perimeters and by the daily management in tight timescales of significant flows of people, goods and vehicles, that are often difficult to control.

Post Security is characterized by the presence of numerous critical points such as, for example, the numerous accesses and sensitive targets at risk of terrorism, theft, intrusion, fires, explosions, tampering, sabotage and contamination. It is therefore essential to base the design of a Port Security System on a Port Security Assessment. The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974 and the so called IPSP Code dictate the bases procedures for the analysis of criticalities of each Port areas.

The Security Model for Ports proposed by Gruppo DAB is an Advanced Integrated Security (AIS) system, based upon open technological platforms which integrate the implemented systems and allow for communication with external processes, analysing and correlating the information collected and thereby maximising the investment in Security.

The platform allows security monitoring of flows (goods loading, unloading&storage, access and embarkation of passengers, luggage, and vehicles) in an effective manner and with significant optimisation of security personnel. Integrated video surveillance systems, access controls, intrusion detection, LPR, under-vehicle inspection, metal detectors and passengers identification system are run by an Operations Centre, the core of the process of control, which analyses the data collected and coordinates the interventions in a targeted manner in the case of critical events. It is able to communicate bi-directionally with the functional systems and subsystems present on field, through modern telecommunications networks.
